Inmate loses appeal to play 'Dungeon & Dragons' New York Daily News
Date: 26.01.10
Prisoners at a Wisconsin prison are going to need to role for a luck bonus if they hope to play another campaign.
Kevin T. Singer , a resident of Waupun prison, lost his appeal this week to regain the right to play his favorite role-playing game, "Dungeons & Dragons."
"Punishment is a fundamental aspect of imprisonment, and prisons may choose to punish inmates by preventing them from participating in some of their favorite recreations," the court said, according to the Associated Press .
Singer, who AP reports was imprisoned in 2002 and is serving a life sentence for brutally killing his sister's boyfriend with a sledge hammer, has been an avid Dungeons & Dragons players since childhood. He would regularly play the game with his fellow prisoners.
"Singer's devotion to D&D was unwavering during his incarceration at Waupun," state court documents. "He frequently ordered D&D publications and game materials by mail and had them delivered to his cell."
Where can I get basic tips for Stratego?
I just started playing Stratego and I love it.
However, I am not playing too well and was wondering if there are places on line where I can learn?
Cant tell you a website but i can give some tips.
1. Never put flag in first or second row.
2. Mix up the board on values.
3. Putting bombs around the flag never works..(put some bombs, an 8, and a 7 rank guys)
4. Use your 3's conservitively (3 is the only one who can defeat a bomb)
5. Stake out where the enemy bombs are then send in 3s to take bombs out protect 3's with 6's and 7's.
6. Do not send 10 and 9 in to battle to soon.
7. Use 2 on the front row a few times. Reveal the enemy numbers.
Now you have what you need to become a stratego champ.
Anyways - I did search google and found this... I hope it helps!

Need a good strategy board game beyond RISK and Stratego?
My husband and son have discovered board games... They played Risk last weekend and my son was upset that it was based more on the luck of the dice than strategy. He's an economics major so if it includes some aspect of that, even better! They would like a game beyond the Risk and Stratego games. Any ideas?
Check out Settlers of Catan. I'd guess it's 75% strategy, 25% luck.
The island of Catan has just been discovered. You and your opponents are attempting to settle the island by building settlements, roads, and cities. You select locations based on the resources they offer and the probability of rolling the number to obtain those resources. There are several different strategies, the board position changes with every game. My son turned me on to it, and after only a few games I'm hooked.
Hope this helped
Where can I find a list of the characters for Stratego Star Wars edition?
My son got the game and for a change it came with 8 extra pieces. We are trying to figure out which are which and can't find a list. We have already tried Milton Bradley with no luck. Any help you can give is greatly appriciated. Thank you.

What is the perfect perfect stratego configuration?
Has a computer figure this out yet. What is the perfect placement of pieces. How many scouts up front. Where to put Miners? I know it depends but what is the best.
I love stratego!! I learned to play as a kid with my dad all the time...but it's a lot harder to find somebody who wants to play it now that i'm all grown up. Here are some great tips for setting up your pieces. (If you follow the link, there are even more tips and suggestions). Enjoy!!
It is usually a good idea to completely surround your Flag with Bombs. If you do so, and if during the game you are able to capture all of your opponent's Miners, you reduce the number of ways your opponent can win the game in half. If your Flag is surrounded by Bombs, without Miners, your opponent simply will not be able to capture your Flag. He must now capture all of your remaining men in order to win.
Below are the two most common methods of surrounding the Flag with Bombs. The first one is in the back row, up against one of the edges of the board. This method uses just two Bombs. The second method is anywhere else in the back row and requires three Bombs.
Keep the identity of your Spy a secret for as long as you can. If your opponent correctly guesses the location of your Spy, or if your Spy becomes a casualty of war, your opponent's Marshal becomes much more powerful.
It's usually a good idea to save your Miners for the late stages of the game, after most of your opponent's Bombs have been identified. For this reason, I usually deploy most of my Miners in my back two ranks.
I usually keep my Marshal on one side of the board, and my General on the other. If I kept both of these two officers together, then one side of the board would be quite weak and undefended. Keeping these two officers apart helps to distribute my resources. My Spy is usually nearby my General, to give him some backup, in case my opponent's Marshal is lurking nearby and desires to give my General some trouble.
Keep you eyes on the arrangement of your opponent's pieces. After a short period of time, usually you can get a pretty good idea where his Flag and Bombs are, simply by noticing which pieces he has not moved. For this reason you may wish to be sure to not move a few of your pieces, in the hopes that your opponent is keeping an eye on which pieces you don't move.
Your Marshal, General, and to a lesser degree your two Colonels are too valuable to lose and therefore should rarely go exploring into enemy territory. These pieces should only attack pieces that a) have already moved and b) you know or strongly suspect are of a lesser rank.
The strength of the Scouts increase near the end of the game, when most of the board is free of pieces and the Scouts can fully utilize their power of rapid movement. For this reason you may wish to initially place a few of your Scouts in your rear rank.
Does anyone have the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Stratego Rules and 25th Anniversary Trivial Pursuit rules?
I am trying to sell the games, but need the instructions for them, thanks.
You can always find the rules to Habro games and toys on their website. Here are the PDFs for the rules you seek:
Lord of the Rings Trilogy Stratego:

Hmmm... I couldn't find the 25h Anniversary Trivial Pursuit Rules -- even though Hasbro lists it as a product on their page. Perhaps you could e-mail their customer service for a scan of the rules.
strategies and tips on how to play and win stratego?
I need Strategies and tips on how to win stratego? It's a board game. It's the first time I've even heard of it... help please!
Stratego has been around forever. First, you need to use your scouts effectively. They should either find a huge person or trade for their scouts before it finds your huge people (or bombs). Since they are the only piece that can move more than one hex, they are vital. Another tip is to keep your spy safe. He's the only piece that can kill the General and the best way I find to keep him safe is to keep him near the second most powerful piece on the board so that when the General takes that piece, you kill his General and still have your General on the board. Third tip I would have is to never touch a piece that refuses to move except with a bomber or a scout. A bomber is the only piece that deactivates the bombs and a scout dies to everything, so both of those pieces are expendible in locating bombs. Pieces that don't move are either flags, bombs, or spies that are trying to get the General close enough to sneak attack on. The spy pretends to be a bomb and when the General steps up near it to see if it will move, then the spy attacks. My tip, I never surround my flag with bombs, I surround it on one side with a few bombs and the #2 guy and the spy and on the other side with the General and I also don't put my flag in the back row. Most people think you should fight to the back row to capture the flag, but by putting it in the second or third row, it looks more like a bomb, is defendible by your 2 biggest pieces and will probably be passed up as a bomb by almost all your opponents pieces due to not being in the back row. Last tip, look for their bombers and look hard. If you can get all of them, then he has no way to win without risking his guys. Bombers are more important to eliminate than the General when it comes to flag hunting, so kill them and do it as quickly as possible.
Those are my tips and I hope you win a few games with them.
What happens in the board game Stratego when a number two ranked player shoots during gameplay?
I don't know how to play Stratego, but I found a few sites that may help you.
Whatever happened to electronic Stratego by Milton Bradley?
I remember playing this game during the 80's and it seems that it has disappeared. The board game version is around but I can't find the electronic version. Does anyone know what happened or where I can find this game?
Technology has gotten better and/or people lose interest in the game and it gets dropped from the company's catalog. You may find it used on EBay or Boardgame Geek.
Where can I play the board game Stratego on-line for free?
Is there such a place?

Do you turn pieces back around in Stratego?
In stratego when a player attacks both players turn their pieces around but once thee winner is declared and the loser removes hi/her piece does the winner turn their piece around to where it isn't visible what the unit is or does it remain visible?
yes, you turn it back around. The other player should remember what the piece is, but they may not.
That's the way I've always played it.
